How Much Lost Treasure Is In The World?
Q: How much lost treasure is there in the world?
A: No one knows how much lost treasure there is in the world. There are educated guesses, of course, and these range up to a staggering $500 billion. In the July 5, 1952, issue of the New York Times it was reported:
"The total value of these known treasures (lost in secret places in the earth or at the bottom of the seas) exceeds $260,000,000,000."
The Times went on to say:
"Most of it is in the Western Hemisphere, and much of it is hidden in the United States, or in the waters touching United States shores, and strangely enough, even the general locations of this $260,000,000,000 are known - it is the specific hiding spots which are hard to find."
It is estimated that an average of about $25,000,000 in treasure is found each year, and that about hat same amount is lost, misplaced and forgotten, or hidden each year. The New York Times is quoted again:
"Consider that more than $18,000,000 in lost an sunken treasure was reported found last year (1951) in the United States alone. Undoubtedly even more was found but for tax reasons, not reported."
Fellows, we're not going to run out of treasure to seek for a long, long time!
